Importance of XML sitemap

Let me explain it with an example, Suppose I’m going to purchase some book related to my topic. Can I scroll the whole book to find my topic, the answer is no. I check only the index of that book. If the index of the book are not correct or not related to my topic then what happen? you pick another book. If the topic is found in that book then you refer this book and reject another book.

Similarly, if the index of your website is not submitted in webmaster tool then google not crawl your website or indexing it. (So first, you have to submit sitemap in Webmaster Tool that I will explain at the end of the article.) When someone searches your post. Google have no index of your post and then google refer to next blogger similar to that post. Moz also explains the benefit of the Sitemap in very nice way.

There is one more type of a Sitemap that is “Sitemap in Footer“. This sitemap helps your visitor to navigate your site and provide all your content at one place.  Sitemap in footer also helps search engine to index all the content of your site at one place.

Some important point of XML sitemap are

  • For websites with many pages, a sitemap helps search engines discover pages that are new or updated.
  • Those Websites that don’t use good internal linking optimization, a sitemap is a great way to give information to crawlers about your website pages.
  • For new websites that don’t have many incoming links, a Sitemap will serve as a discovery tool.

Just install a plugin and submit a file and forget about it. when every you update post they automatically enter URL into the webmaster.

But if you are using  Yoast SEO Plugins  you no need to use another type of XML sitemap Generator. WordPress SEO by Yoast is what I am currently using on my hitechwork blog. I use it to create sitemaps for my blog because

  1. I use the plugin for SEO already, and
  2. It is very simple to set up.

To check if your website has a sitemap you can open a new browser window and navigate to http://www.hitechwork.com/sitemap_index.xml

Note:- It is necessary to understand that a sitemap is not a static file but it needs to be updated automatically when a new page is added to your website or when changes are made to existing pages.
