On Friday’s Google interview with The New York Times “Hard Fork podcast,” CEO Sundar Pichai “reassured” listeners that Bard would soon be upgraded to a more competent Pathways Language Model (PaLM). PaLM, according to Pichai, is a more recent language model that is more expansive and more suited to deal with challenges like logical thinking and coding. Nowadays, Bard uses a compact and effective version of LaMDA. PaLM’s upgrade will add features like improved numerical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
He also disclosed that he had discussed the project with Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the other two co-founders of Google and that it was crucial to hold back on releasing a more advanced model until they were ready to handle it. Despite the setbacks, Pichai is obsessed with the future of AI and its potential advantages.
