How to find Wi-Fi password on Windows
Windows don’t have a Wi-Fi sharing feature, which is disappointing, but you can easily see the password for whatever network you’re currently connected to.
- Open the Control Panel, then head to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
- Navigate to the name of the network you are connected to, then click Wireless Properties.
- If you check the Show characters option on the Security tab, you’ll see the Network security key (your password).
You can only use this for the network you’re currently connected to. If you would like to see the passwords of other networks, you have two choices.
- Use the command prompt. The command netshwlan show profile NetworkName key=clear displays the password for any Wi-Fi network if you replace “NetworkName” with the name of the network. The command netshwlan show profile displays a list of networks if you do not know the name of the network.
- Download a third-party app. Magical Jellybean WiFiRevealer and WirelessKeyView can both display all of your saved Wi-Fi passwords.
How to find and share your Android Wi-Fi password
With an Android device, it’s easy to share passwords-the app supports browsing all the networks you’ve connected to, and the password can be viewed or shared using a QR code.
- Open the settings on your device, then head to Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
- Once you’ve scrolled past the current networks to Saved networks, tap the network you’d like to share.
- You can share the password by tapping the Share button. A QR code will appear. Below the QR code, the password will be displayed in plaintext.
How to share your Wi-Fi password on iPhone & iPad
There is no way to view all of your Wi-Fi passwords on an iPhone or iPad, but you can share the password for the currently connected network with other iPhone and iPad users.
If someone physically near you tries to connect to a network you’re connected to, you’ll see a pop-up like this:
Tap Share Password if you recognize the name, and the device will connect. It’s really cool. You must have Bluetooth enabled on both devices for this to work.
It only works for the network you’re currently connected to. There is no way to view other users’ passwords or share them. It’s possible to work around this if you also own a Mac: all passwords saved on an iPhone or iPad are synced to macOS devices via iCloud, and macOS devices also support browsing saved passwords.
How to find a Wi-Fi password on a Mac
Keychain Access stores all Wi-Fi passwords on your Mac.
- Open the Finder, and head to Applications > Utilities. Alternatively, you can open Spotlight by hitting, then typing “Keychain Access.” Either way, you’ll find all of your Wi-Fi passwords in the System section.
- Find any network, open it, and check the Show password button. You’ll be asked for an administrator password, which is usually the password for your user account.
